Calderdale Flood Action Plan: 3 years old

2015 flood

Created following the floods of Boxing Day 2015, the plan aims to reduce the impact of flooding and build resilience for future events. It was developed through workshops, drop-in sessions and meetings, and these have continued to develop and be shaped by the work as it has progressed. More info (4 Oct)

Hebden Bridge Camera Club Annual Exhibition was for the week from 24 August at the Town Hall. All visitors had the opportunity to vote for their favourites from approximately 60 framed prints. More info

Peterloo: Actress Maxine Peake unveiled political banner created by a Calder Valley artist Joan Heath who lives in Todmorden and is a former resident of Hebden Bridge. The banner unveiling was part of a series of events remembering the massacre at Peterloo, 200 years ago. Read more (11 Aug)

Hebden Bridge to Mytholmroyd - the road re-opened Satuday morning, 3 August after the Walkleys Clogs fire. Walking and Cycling routes via the towpath are also open. (3 Aug)

WalkleysWalkleys Clogs building on fire - the road between Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd is now likely to remain closed until Saturday, according to Calderdale. The Fire Service say the fire is under control but are asking people to stay away from the area. See BBC report (1 Aug, updated 10pm)

Colour, music, dancing and smiles: The sun shone and the crowds gathered as the Handmade Parade’s 'Once upon a Time' tales wound through the streets of Hebden Bridge yesterday for the 12th annual Handmade Parade. Thousands of people from across the north and beyond watched the Parade of hundreds of people of all ages in as it filled the town with colour, music, dancing and smiles. See HebWeb photo gallery. Croquet

Croquet at the Bowling Club, built 1898, which stopped being a bowling club around five years ago and is now owned by the Blue Pig. The pavillion has been renovated and vegetation cleared. Read more.(19 Sept)

Canal towpath re-opened

Re-opening of the Rochdale Canal towpath on Sat, 14 Sept. at 11am. Important cycling and walking link to be officially re-opened following improvement works as part of a £2.9m package. Read more - updated with what speakers said.

A Hundred years’ service to Wadsworth Parish Council. John Lynch elected in the mid 1970s and Mavis Ring and Geoff Hughes both elected in the 1980s retired in May, this year, with over a hundred years’ service between them. Read more (15 Sept)

Flood siren sounded for Hebden Bridge at 9.55pm, Sunday evening, 28 July. Flood wardens were out helping people much of the night. The river peaked around 11pm and the risk of further flooding has been averted - for now. More rain forecast over the next few days - see Environment Agency and Facebook's Calder Valley Flood Support. (29 July)

33 degreesFire and barbecues banned on moors With the temperature in Hebden Bridge reaching 33C yesterday, action to reduce the risk of moorland fires continues in Calderdale, with new signs going up on moors across the borough to warn people that using barbecues and lighting fires is banned. More tree cover still needed in Hebden Bridge, say Friends of the Earth. The organisation claims trees can act as effective flood defences, helping to reduce peak water levels by as much as a quarter. See ITV report.

Schoolchildren bike across Yorkshire

Schoolchildren bike across Yorkshire Over 100 pupils in Calderdale got on their bikes and took part in the Schools Yorkshire Tour. A baton is travelling 400 miles across Yorkshire, passed on by children on bikes from 160 schools, including, today, Hebden Bridge. Read more. (18 June)

No banks. No petrol. Lloyds Bank was the last bank left in Hebden Bridge. It closed this month. Shepherds was the last petrol garage still open in Hebden Bridge. It stopped selling petrol this month.

After more than 125 years as a familiar sight in the town, Network Rail have pulled the levers for the last time. Two community groups have put forward proposals for the building to be saved and restored to its former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway glory. More info and leaflet

Community toilet scheme launches in Mytholmroyd. The public toilets in Mytholmroyd have been demolished. While options for toilet provision elsewhere in the town are being investigated, Calderdale has been working with local businesses to encourage them to take part in a community toilets scheme.
