A Hundred years’ service to Wadsworth Parish Council
Sunday, 15 September 2019
Three members of the Parish Council in Wadsworth retired in May, this year, with over a hundred years’ service between them.
John Lynch elected in the mid 1970s and Mavis Ring and Geoff Hughes both elected in the 1980s. The Parish Council is to celebrate this unusual event but it is also seeking to replace these colleagues and therefore there are currently three vacancies on the council.
The council believes it is the second largest parish in the country (England) and is particularly keen to recruit younger members of the community but all applications are welcome.
The parish covers Old Town, Pecket Well, parts of north east Hebden Bridge, Wadsworth Moor and a large part of Hardcastle Crags.
The Parish Council owns two play areas as well as allotments, garages and parking spaces, which are leased to local residents and is the owner of Wadsworth Community Centre, leased at a pepper corn rent to the Community Association.
The Parish Council meets once a month at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, on a Wednesday at 7.30 pm. The meetings are friendly and include a public question time.
If you think that you may be interested in becoming a local Parish Councillor please send a short CV to wparish@hotmail.com. You do not need any specific qualifications but you do need to be over 18 and live within, or within a few miles, of the Parish. All applications welcome. We look forward to hearing from you.
