Free public toilets from 1 August This year Calderdale Council will mark Yorkshire Day by making all of its public toilets free of charge, initially for a trial period. So from Thursday 1 August, there’ll be no cost if you need to spend a penny. More info (19 July)

Colour, music, dancing and smiles: The sun shone and the crowds gathered as the Handmade Parade’s 'Once upon a Time' tales wound through the streets of Hebden Bridge yesterday for the 12th annual Handmade Parade. Thousands of people from across the north and beyond watched the Parade of hundreds of people of all ages in as it filled the town with colour, music, dancing and smiles. See HebWeb photo gallery. Schoolchildren bike across Yorkshire

Schoolchildren bike across Yorkshire Over 100 pupils in Calderdale got on their bikes and took part in the Schools Yorkshire Tour. A baton is travelling 400 miles across Yorkshire, passed on by children on bikes from 160 schools, including, today, Hebden Bridge. Read more. (18 June)

Green screen for Burnley Road Academy To help absorb harmful pollutants, Calderdale Council has installed a plant-based perimeter fence around the school playground as part of its plans to tackle air pollution. More info (12 June)

Calderdale's Clean Air Day was on Thursday 20 June. At the start of 2019, Calderdale Council declared a climate emergency. It is stepping up its action to improve air quality, cut carbon and protect our distinctive environment. More info

No banks. No petrol. Lloyds Bank was the last bank left in Hebden Bridge. It closed this month. Shepherds was the last petrol garage still open in Hebden Bridge. It stopped selling petrol this month.

Petition for Electric Valley: A petition calling for the electrification of the Calder Valley line has been launched by Calderdale Council as part of its campaign for greater investment in the service. Read more.

Community toilet scheme launches in Mytholmroyd. The public toilets in Mytholmroyd have been demolished. While options for toilet provision elsewhere in the town are being investigated, Calderdale has been working with local businesses to encourage them to take part in a community toilets scheme.
