Hebden Bridge Film Festival - with Maxine Peake as patron

Hebden Bridge Film festival is delighted to announce that actress Maxine Peake is their new patron.
Hebden Bridge is to host the Calder Valley’s first international film festival, running from 22nd- 24th March 2019 at the Hebden Bridge Picture House and the Hebden Bridge Town Hall. The festival theme is "The Other", fitting for the long history of non-conformism in the valley. Hebden Bridge Film festival will show a program of exciting new films from the UK and around the world.

Her enormous contribution to film, television and theatre as an actress, writer, and director has made her a national treasure and her northern roots make her a perfect fit for the Hebden Bridge Film Festival."
Since her debut in Victoria’s Wood’s Dinner Ladies, Maxine Peake has become one of the nation’s favourite actors. Over the years, she has appeared in an extraordinary range of work: See No Evil: The Moors Murders, Red Riding, Little Dorrit, Henry IV, The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister, and BAFTA nominated dramas Silk, The Village, and Shameless. Peake gave an extraordinary performance in her portrayal of social worker Sara Rowbotham in Three Girls, the drama based on the Rochdale sex abuse scandal. More recently audiences loved her in Funny Cow and Mike Leigh’s Peterloo.
Not content with acting and directing, Maxine is also a talented scriptwriter and her first radio play Beryl: A Love Story on Two Wheels, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 was nominated for a Sony Radio Award. She later adapted it into a stage play, which received rave reviews at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Maxine is presently filming the lead role of Hillsborough Campaigner, Anne Williams in a new TV series called Anne. Her debut as a film director, the short Time Away, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival.
Festival passes are already on sale, at the Film Festival website and the full program will be announced in February.
