Award-winning Carmen and Lola added to Film Festival
Film Festival: 22-24 March 2019
The first ever Hebden Bridge Film Festival will show the award winning Spanish film Carmen & Lola. Basque filmmaker Arantxa Echevarría made her debut last year at Cannes with her story of forbidden love between two young women in Madrid’s close-knit Roma Community.
Director Arantxa Echevarría was the first Spanish female filmmaker with a feature film in competition at the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. She received the Goya Award for Best Director, Spain's principal national film awards.
The film is being shown in partnership with Happy Valley Pride at Hebden Bridge Picture House on Saturday 23 March 2019.
Louise Wadley, Hebden Bridge Film Festival director, said, “We are delighted to partner with Happy Valley Pride to showcase this fantastic, colourful and vibrant film that. It is an astonishing debut from director Arantxa Echevarría, who has quite rightly received many accolades and is certainly one to watch.”
The film joins Wild Rose, Being Frank and The Fight on the festival programme.
Additionally, festival Patron Maxine Peake will be debuting her new short film.
