Twinning Society joins Warstein’s Autumn Festival

The Hebden Bridge Twinning Society had a great trip to our twin town Warstein on the weekend of the 20th to 21st October to join in their Autumn Festival (otherwise known as the beer festival....)

Excellent Warsteiner beer was served on both days and we watched the “Brewer’s Baptism” on Saturday and on the Sunday joined in the Brauerumzug parade with the WEF (Warstein twinning society) and ASPAI (our twin town St Pol’s twinning society).

At the “Brewer’s Baptism”, our WEF friend Wolfgang Heppekausen received a special award for his contribution to the community and we watched him “baptised” with a large ladle full of beer!

For the parade on Sunday we were asked to wear something “British” – and thanks to the Hebden Bridge Cricket Club were able to wear cricket whites which were much applauded by our friends. After the parade we relaxed in the market place with our friends much enlivened by the stalls and the fun fair.

We also visited the Westphalia Salt Museum in the beautiful little town of Bad Sassendorf. As we arrived on the Friday evening and left on the Monday morning, we also had free time with our hosts which was great. We look forward very much to our next visit!
