Hebden Bridge Twinning: Visit from Warstein
Thursday, 26 October 2017
From the 19th to the 22nd October we enjoyed a terrific visit from our friends in Warstein (plus a small number from St Pol).
On Friday morning Mayor Pat Fraser entertained our visitors with coffee and cake in the Town Hall Council Chamber. Mike Edwards then led a tour of Hebden Bridge, and in the evening guests and hosts shared their evening meal.
On Saturday afternoon we went to Cliffe Castle in Keighley to admire its unique Victoriana and original exhibitions.
The highlight of the visit was our social at the Mytholmroyd Community Centre on Saturday night. The Junior Band welcomed our guests with music and everyone enjoyed a delicious Indian Tapas buffet from The Dosa.
The theme of the evening was flood relief – which turned out to be highly topical! Joey Williams from Slow the Flow was out working on flood prevention but sent a very able substitute, Adrian Horton.
Our guests were very impressed by what he had to say, and they also enjoyed Robin Dixon's account of his time as a flood warden. Adrian and Robin then advised us that the flood risk in Mytholmroyd was now significant and that we needed to head for home!
On Sunday, Mike Edwards gave his famous alternative tour of Manchester before we took our Warstein guests to the airport.
