Mytholmroyd Arts Festival explores the elements

Mytholmroyd Arts Festival invites you to a celebratory exploration of the four elements earth, fire, water and air with a packed programme of events Friday 14th to Sunday 16th October.

The Project

Now in its second year, the Festival is expanding its arts activities. New for 2016, 'The Project' is an exciting musical challenge for local singers, instrumentalists and wordsmiths to work alongside professional musicians and write original material to perform at the Festival Finale concert. Workshops begin on Wednesday 5th October.

Singers can also have fun exploring and developing their voice at weekly 'Singing for Everybody' sessions (beginning Thursday 29th September) as part of a new initiative to establish Mytholmroyd's very own Community Choir.

With the elements as its theme, the Festival is taking full advantage of Mytholmroyd's great outdoors. Throughout the weekend, you can discover 'Living Rooms' in unexpected places around the village.

Annie Harrison, Artistic Director of the Festival, explains, 'We have invited four local artists, Sally Barker, Louis Benoit, Mark Burgum and Sarah McDade to use their imagination to transform a domestic scene into an outdoor art installation. We are excited to see what they produce."

Local people have also contributed to this project, working with ceramic artist Sarah McDade to create pieces for one of the 'Living Rooms'.

FlameOz fire show

On Saturday 15th the Community Centre will host a night market with craft and food stalls, a pop-up bar and spectacular outdoor entertainment from Calvos and FlameOz.

Sunday 16th sees the launch of Mytholmroyd Arts Activity Trail, with workshops for all ages. On both days Mytholmroyd artists and makers open up their homes and studios to show and sell their work.

The Festival launches at 18:00 on Friday 14th October with a Schools' Art Exhibition at the Ted Hughes Theatre, followed by an after-show party at The Dusty Miller.
