Mytholmroyd celebrates its young artists
Sunday, 25 September 2016
The opening event of this year's Mytholmroyd Arts Festival celebrates the creativity of our young people with a Schools' Art Exhibition and Competition at the Ted Hughes Theatre, Calder High School on 14 and 15 October, 2016.
The exhibition − which also features an 'Artists of the Future' display by children from The Ark Nursery − opens from 18:00 to 21:00 on Friday 14 October, continuing on Saturday between 10:00 to 16:00, with prize winners announced at 15:00.
Thanks to the generous support of Thomson Reuters, entrants from participating schools Scout Road Academy and Calder High will compete for top prizes of £25 for primary pupils and £50 for secondary pupils.
Thomson Reuters £500 donation has enabled the Festival to award a range of judges' prizes across age groups. There will also be a People's Vote by exhibition visitors, which will close at 14:00 on Saturday. The winning piece will be framed by the sponsor of the People's Vote, Abacus Picture Framing.
Thomson Reuters is the world's leading source of news and information for professional markets and one of the largest employers in the Calder Valley. The company has supported Mytholmroyd Arts Festival since its inaugural year. In 2015 the company's sponsorship of the Open Art Exhibition underpinned its success with one of the largest prize funds of its kind in the North.
This year's Arts Festival explores the four elements, with a packed programme of events between 14 and 16 October 2016. For further information about this and other upcoming events see the Festival website.
