The Hebden Bridge Web and Mytholmroyd Net have been informed that Robbie really enjoyed himself at the Dock Pudding Competition in Mytholmroyd yesterday and was very impressed with junior band. He was absolutely delighted, and very surprised to come in second place.
The crew also thought that Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd were absolutely stunning places and the people they met friendly and welcoming. The production team wish to thank everyone who helped make it possible for us be there.
Darren Kay who had never made the dish before won the contest. Robbie Coltrane was the runner up and Jane Kennedy was third.
Rachel Mackenzie wrote to the Hebden Bridge Web in March: "I am a researcher working on a new TV programme for ITV1 called 'Robbie Coltrane's Incredible Britain.' The idea is Robbie is on a journey around Britain. Along the journey, he meets some of the most interesting people in the country . . . . to uncover the impressive and the unconventional, the challenging and the intriguing."
We made various suggestions but only the Pace Egg Play, the Duck Race and the Dock Pudding Contest seemed to be of interest, and only the last one fitted in with their schedule.
We put a news item on the Hebden Bridge Web last week, but were persuaded to take it down because of fears that the Dock Pudding Contest would be overwhelmed.
This is a new 3 part series for ITV1. The title of the programme is unconfirmed although at the moment it has a working title of 'Robbie Coltrane's Incredible Britain'. It's due to be transmitted around August this year.
The Hebden Bridge Web and Mytholmroyd Net have been given a privileged insight into the programme's brief in return for their help.
The premise of the series is...
"Robbie Coltrane travels from London to Glasgow, willfully driving off the beaten track on a quest to re-discover the essence of Britishness.
"Along the journey, he meets some of the most interesting people in the country, people with unexpected talents, knowledge and skills. Through their unique passions, Robbie will take stock of our nation, its extraordinary people, and its real character.
"50 years ago, Britain’s first motorway was built and the need for speed began hardening the country’s arteries with six lane tarmac. But did that kill off life beyond the hard shoulder? Not a bit of it. It just made it more rewarding to find."
A self-confessed ‘nosey bastard’, the legendary Mr Coltrane dumps his sat nav and takes the scenic B roads on a quest to uncover the impressive and the unconventional, the challenging and the intriguing. He will celebrate the customs and traditions we cling onto despite the merciless pace of the modern world, and he will also discover how that pace has generated fantastic new ideas and new ways of life.
"Proud, endlessly surprising, witty and of course, stunningly beautiful, the series will celebrate what we have built, what we own, and what we do and what makes us singularly British and our country truly incredible."
