Gig Celebrating The Pennine Way

Wadsworth Community Centre
Sunday 23rd March 5pm

Doors 4pm for 5pm
Tickets £10

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Britain's first long-distance path, The Pennine Way, Johnny Campbell sets his compass north, from Edale, Derbyshire, traversing the 'Backbone of England'. Across the wild moorlands, mountains and fells of Northern England, to finish in Kirk Yetholm, Scotland, a 268 mile journey of the Pennine Way, performing seventeen shows in nineteen days.

With a couple pairs of sturdy boots, a trusty Ordnance Survey map, and a guitar on his back, this tour is a celebration of The Pennine Way, which encompasses shows in a myriad of iconic Pennine locations en route.

From music venues and cafes, to the more obscure, such as Tan Hill Inn, (Britain's highest pub), St Oswald's Church, Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Old Nag's Head (the official start of the route) and The Border Hotel (the official end of the route).

Johnny's tour arrives at Wadsworth Community Centre on Sunday 23rd March with an unusual start time of 5pm (perhaps so Johnny can get an early night).

Described as a 'modern day Billy Bragg' (Tradfolk), Johnny Campbell reflects the traditions of North of England in his own songs, many of which promote the 'right to roam'. He resonates with the burgeoning interest in nature, legend and the countryside, without losing any of the gritty politics of his region.

Pete Coe is a 'one man folk industry,' and in many ways representing the backbone of the 20th century folk revival being a professional musician since since 1971. We are delighted that Pete will open the evening with songs he composed referencing the Pennine Way.

Special guests, Lucy and Hazel are inventive, political songwriters who have captivated and charmed audiences with their humour, harmonies and songs covering subjects that include feminism, land, justice, climate, and power. Expect some lovely singing and lots of laughs, always with a political thread.

Tickets Standard £10 or £12/£15 to be supporter.
