Wadsworth Folk
Sunday, 10 September 2023
On Saturday 30th September at Wadsworth Community Centre will be hosting Sam Kelly and Jamie Francis with support from folk trio, Hebble.
Sam Kelly is a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. As a child in Norfolk, Sam's only link to folk music lay in the Gaelic folk songs that his Irish grandfather taught him, and Sam has never lost his love for traditional music.
Jamie Francis (on banjo, guitar and vocals) met Sam when they were studying music and playing at open mics in Brighton. Jamie fronted his own alt-blues trio and brings his varied musical influences to bear on the songs he writes with Sam. He is recognized as a formidable banjo player.
Sam and Jamie have collaborated on writing and arranging material since meeting at university in 2010 and discovering a common interest in roots music. Sam and Jamie form the core of the Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys collective who have gained a reputation as one of the best folk bands in the UK packing out festival tents and venues. Sam and Jamie continue to gig as a duo.
The audience can expect hearing innovative reworking of traditional songs and tunes as well as stunning original music, amusing anecdotes, and instrumental performances of the highest calibre.
