Born in Bradford
Saturday, 30 Sept, 7.30pm, Town Hall
Speaker: Professor John Wright
Hebden Bridge Lit&Sci starts its 2023 Autumn season with a very special event that has local, national, and global implications.
On Saturday 30th September at 7.30pm, in the Hebden Bridge Town Hall, the Lit & Sci are presenting Professor John Wright, chief investigator in the long-term study of Born in Bradford, which asks the question – Can a research study change a city?
Professor Wright is a doctor and epidemiologist with a background in hospital medicine and public health in the UK and in Africa. His work, particularly relating to this study in Bradford, has been reported widely, and discussed on BBC Radio 4.
Born in Bradford is following the lives of over 13,000 families as their children grow up. Evidence from these studies has informed local, national international policies and led to improvements in clinical practice and public health.
It is one of the largest health research studies in the world. It has been at the forefront of scientific discovery from genetics through to environment. This people-powered research study has instilled pride in the city and been a catalyst for change from new clinical practice and school environments, through to Clean Air Zones and City of Culture.
The talk will cover the origins and development of Born in Bradford and discuss how we can address deep inequalities in our region and inspire a new generation to plan for the future.
Tickets £10 online at: hblitandsci.org.uk and at Hebden Bridge Town Hall (Mon-Fri, cash/chq only).
