Mytholmroyd Station Building Re-opening
Sunday, 23 July 2023
Plans might be for Ticket offices to close, but the former Station Building at Mytholmroyd is starting to re-open – after 40 plus years!
The building charity Trustees organised, with the help from Network Rail and Northern Trains, a series of exhibitions and workshops.
Around 500 people came during the Open Studios and Space 70 events.
Many of the visitors came to see the station building – some remembered queuing in ground-floor booking hall to buy tickets before having to climb the considerable stairs to the platforms and their train.
For the first time, they were also able to see the renovated former station master accommodation – sitting room, kitchen and parlour which were latterly used for the storage and transit of the world-famous Thornber chicks before they were transported off by rail.
More visits – round the whole building are planned. For details, please contact – communityhub.myt@btinternet.com
The station building charity is seeking enthusiastic potential Trustees to help plan the policy for the conversion to a creative community hub for the local area. Applications are welcome – experience in fund raising and leasehold/legal matters via email.
