Town Council to host Retrofit Workshop

Hebden Royd residents are invited to learn how to make radical energy savings at home and to engage in conversation about future retrofit opportunities.

Hebden Royd Town Council is delighted to announce its first retrofit workshop, Radical Energy Savings: an Introduction to Retrofit, which takes place on September 16, from 10am to 12 noon in the Waterfront Hall, Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

This workshop is brought to you in partnership with BEAT, Blackshaw Environmental Action Team - a local group that works with Pennine Community Power, and Carbon Coop, a pioneering cooperative that helps people and communities make radical reductions in carbon emissions.

The comprehensive two-hour session, led by retrofit expert, Aneaka Kellay from Carbon Coop, aims to empower attendees by helping them understand the basic ideas and concepts relating to retrofitting. The session will provide in-depth information on how to reduce energy bills, improve property, and make homes more energy efficient and more comfortable. By attending, participants will also gain valuable insights into the various aspects of a retrofit project, including challenges and risks.

Aneaka will also engage residents in conversations about the best ways to deal with the specific retrofit issues that affect housing stock in this area, starting by asking them about their interest in a series of practical "How-to-Retrofit" workshops, focusing specifically on solutions that work with local housing stock.

The built environment is the largest source of climate emissions followed by transport. As such it represents one of the council's biggest challenges, and is a key area of focus in Hebden Royd Town Council's Climate Action Plan.

Finn Jensen from Blackshaw Environmental Action Team and Pennine Community Power said, "The event on 16th September follows a successful project we had with Carbon Coop in Todmorden, which involved four public workshops, supporting community champions in Todmorden to work with the local community and training of builders in doing high quality retrofit improvements to homes."

Councillor Nikki Harvey, chair of Hebden Royd Town Council's Climate Emergency Committee, added: "Hebden Royd Town Council firmly believes that promoting awareness about retrofitting can greatly benefit our community and contribute to a more sustainable future. I encourage everyone to attend this workshop and discover ways they can save money and save the planet at the same time."
