Brooks Williams and Aaron Catlow play Wadsworth Community Centre
Thursday, 13 April 2023
On Saturday 29th April, Brooks Williams and Aaron Catlow stop off at Wadsworth Community Centre on their "Ready for the Times 2023" tour. They bring soaring Trans-Atlantic melodies and bluesy-folk brilliance to the time-honoured guitar and fiddle tradition. These two are masters of their respective instruments.
A chance meeting on tour in The Netherlands led to the two collaborating on two critically acclaimed recordings. 'Ghost Owl' was first in 2021. A collection of guitar & fiddle duets written for, and inspired by, the barn owl, 'Ghost Owl' being shortlisted Instrumental Album Of The Year by Fatea. "The sound," says Songlines, recalls the style of "Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick…. Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli."
'Ready For The Times,' their second album, showcases the depth and breadth of their musical vocabulary. In concert, with two voices, an acoustic guitar and a fiddle, the duo cover both tunes and songs, from Williams' back catalogue as well as gems from the British and American folk tradition, such as Church Street Blues, King Of California, and Farewell To The Gold.
"Absolutely wonderful!" – Mike Harding
Support is from Abbey Thomas, award winning mandolin player and vocalist. Her performances are dynamic and varied, with a mix of traditional and contemporary music alongside original pieces.
