Bridge across the Generations
Monday, 16 January 2023
The film project Bridge across the Generations will be screened at Mytholmroyd Community Centre at 11am on Saturday 21st January 2023.
Conceived by the Hebden Bridge and District Old People's Welfare Committee to celebrate the culmination of the intergenerational 8 to 80 Bridge across the Generations' project, it is a collaboration between local older people and primary school children from Colden, Heptonstall, Hebden Royd, Old Town School and Scout Road Academy.
The project started in early 2020 with community events, when different generations were able to compare social differences today with the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. It was in full flow when, the Covid pandemic struck in March 2020 and the film has Colden School children talking about the lockdown and being taught by parents at home.
As restrictions lifted in 2022, the film looks at the way the different schools approached the story of the 18th Century 'Cragg Vale Coiners' and finishes with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the start of the reign of King Charles III, truly the beginning of a new era.
The film has been described by people who have seen it as inspiring. It runs for 50 minutes.
