Musicians raise more than £1100 for Pakistan Flood Appeal at Heptonstall Concert
A full house of more than 100 people at a musical fundraiser on Sunday 13 November at the Octagonal, Chapel Heptonstall raised £1116 for the DEC Pakistan Flood appeal. The fundraiser for climate change linked flood relief took place midway through the important COP27 international climate negotiations taking place in Egypt.
Eight-piece vocal harmony acapella group Waiting for Dawn teamed up with all female trio The Top Shelalas for a diverse and much enjoyed musical afternoon at the Octagonal Chapel in Heptonstall. (See photo above)
Organiser and singer with 'Waiting for Dawn' Richard Dyer told the HebWeb, "The sell-out audience was wonderfully generous, doubling the ticket proceeds with their donations! This is a fantastic result, and it is badly needed - the floods may have disappeared from our TV screens, but the horrific aftermath remains - with millions in desperate need of food, water and shelter. Many local people have family connections to Pakistan, it was important for us to show solidarity with them."
He added, "With the Pakistan floods strongly linked to man-made Climate Change, world leaders must use the opportunity of the current COP27 international climate talks in Egypt to agree strong action to end our addiction to fossil fuels, as well as generous finance flows to help poorer countries like Pakistan adapt to the impacts."
