New President of the Twinning Society
Monday, 15 November 2021
On the evening of Monday 8th November, at the AGM of the Hebden Bridge Twinning Society Councillor Val Stevens was elected as President of the Society!
Val joined the HBTS when she became a Councillor in 2019 and has been an active member ever since whatever the weather. During the first lockdown she kept a diary of what was happening in Hebden Royd which was much enjoyed by our friends in St Pol and Warstein
Val's credentials as our President are exemplary. For 23 years she was a Councillor for Manchester City Council. During her last 6 years serving as deputy leader, the international relations brief was included in her portfolio. As a result, she travelled to Europe frequently representing Manchester on Eurocities. She also made other visits further afield to China, Japan, and Australia.
After retiring Val lived in France for six years before coming to live in Mytholmroyd. She speaks French and some German and has travelled extensively in France and slightly less in Germany and has friends in both countries.
With all the ideas Val has on keeping twinning relevant for the future, we are expecting a busy year!
