Remembering Cragg Hall

Thursday, 24 June 2021

11 August 2021, marks the 100-year anniversary of the devastating fire that burnt down the mansion Cragg Hall, home of Cragg Vale’s mill-owning Hinchliffe family.

Margaret May said, “The Cragg Vale Local History Group, felt that it would be right and proper to commemorate what was such a powerful event and thus to preserve a part of the area’s rich history that had in the intervening years faded from general knowledge and awareness.”

Supported by Hebden Royd Town Council and with the help of local people and businesses, the History Group will be holding a series of events to mark the anniversary:

  • Thursday 12th August Special Presentation and Slideshow at St John’s Church
  • Saturday 14th August Guided Walk around the Village and Cragg Hall Grounds (by kind permission of the current residents).
  • Weekends 14th - 29th August Exhibition “The Cragg Hall Story” - illustrating the history of the house using a selection of photographs, drawings and artefacts.
  • A full colour Booklet and a DVD of all the events are also being produced.

Please Note COVID-19 Precautions will be applied, including a Box Office Ticketing system.

Visit www.craggvalecommunity.co.uk for updates on the project and details of when tickets will be released.

Each year Hebden Royd Town Council welcomes applications from community and voluntary groups, charities and non-profit making organisations, to apply for a financial grant from the Council’s community funding budget to support projects, activities and events that benefit the residents of Hebden Royd.
