A Community Arts Centre at Callis Mill?

Money is being sought to help bring Callis Mill back to life. It is to cover start-up costs and equipment required to make Callis Mill into a fully accessible arts centre for Hebden Bridge and the Calder Valley.
Aid Todd (50) pictured above at Callis Mill, is the Creative Director of the Hebden-based 40-piece drumming band Drum Machine. Along with fellow director, Kati Edwards (42) of Manchester, they plan to make the building, located on the Halifax Road between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, fully accessible so people with reduced mobility can also use the facilities.
They also intend to provide inclusive rhythm and music-based workshops with the aim of helping people and communities to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
The building is also set to host a gallery and guest artists, as well as live Covid-secure events, live music, choirs and a café, selling wholesome local produce.
Aid Todd said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to open a new performance space in West Yorkshire, but we’re going to need some funding support to actually make this happen. At a time when arts and culture will be emerging from Covid lockdown, this is actually just the right moment to be creating new activity and employment."
