Tree Felling in Crimsworth Dean
Wednesday, 27 January 2021
Hot on the heels of the controversy about the National Trust's tree felling activities in Pecket Well Clough and Hardcastle Crags, local residents have this morning told the HebWeb that another area of mature beech woodland is being felled in Crimsworth Dean.
The woodland is Middle Dean on the hillside below Pecket Well War Memorial adjacent to the National Trust land at Pecket Well Clough. The land is privately owned and, as in the case of the National Trust, the landowner has apparently been issued with a Felling Licence by the Forestry Commission -but with no local public consultation or scrutiny.
A local resident who does not wish to be named has told the HebWeb, "Old beech trees are being decimated at this very moment ruining one of the most beautiful, unspoilt, ecologically unique valleys in the whole of Yorkshire."
