Ice Post Box comes to Hebden Royd

Hebden Royd Town Council were unable to host the annual Christmas Lights Switch On this year, so instead wanted to find a way to do something special for the children in the community. A conversation with Sand in Your Eye led to the idea of funding a magic post box made of ice from the North Pole, to collect the children's letters to Father Christmas.

Emma Green, HRTC Neighbourhood Manager said, "North Pole elves will take the post box to each of the Hebden Royd infant and junior schools and deliver the letters safely back to the North Pole where Father Christmas will write back to each of the children."
The Town Council also wanted to provide a small gift for each child. The Project & Events Committee Chaired by Cllr Wood with Deputy Chair Cllr Stow suggested gifting a book to each of the children and they decided it was important to support independent businesses and choose books that reflected the values of the Town Council. The gifts were wrapped using carefully sourced recyclable wrapping paper and eco tape from Word of Mouth in Hebden Bridge.
KS1 chosen books were written by author Ellie Jackson, a mother of four young children who has written a series of books to help educate children about the impact of plastics on ocean ecosystems. Read more here:
