Last chance for flood resilience funding

Thursday, 24 September 2020

Residents and businesses affected by the flooding in February 2020 now have until the end of October to express an interest in flood resilience funding.

The deadline for submitting an 'expression of interest' form for the government's Property Flood Resilience grant has been extended to 31 October 2020.

The PFR grant pays up to £5,000 to help homes and businesses install measures to help protect them from future flooding.  The work should reduce the risk of potential damage in future and make properties easier and cheaper to clean up if they do flood again.

Any homeowners and businesses that think they could be eligible for support and have yet to register their interest in the scheme, are encouraged to do so as soon as possible, at the Property Flood Resilience web page. This will enable eligibility checks to commence and relevant application forms to be distributed.

Calderdale Council's Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Resilience, Cllr Scott Patient, said, "Over 1200 properties in Calderdale were affected by flooding caused by Storm Ciara earlier this year.

"Unfortunately, climate change makes extreme weather events more likely. As we head towards autumn and winter it's increasingly important to be mindful of the continued risk of flooding and do all we can to increase our resilience.

"I'd encourage all eligible property owners to take advantage of this grant support and express their interest in this scheme as soon as possible. Up to £5000 could be available to help install measures such as door barriers or air-brick covers to minimise the damage of any future flooding."

Property Flood Resilience grants are only normally available to first-time applicants. Properties which have previously benefitted from a recovery grant will only be eligible for further support in exceptional circumstances. All such requests will be considered on a case by case basis.

Eligible applicants will need to appoint a flood assessor / surveyor. Applicants can find a surveyor themselves or Calderdale Council can assist with this process. For more information or to use this service, please email pfrassistance@calderdale.gov.uk.
