Himalayan Balsam choking bluebells
Friday, 15 May 2020
Brearley woods is an area once renowned for its bluebells. Sadly, they are currently being choked by Himalayan Balsam.
Mo Ludlam of the Hebden Bridge Walkers Action says, "There are few other wild flowers now. What to be done? Please walkers, dog walkers, choose a small area to clear. I know it looks daunting but if you clear one area you will make a difference. Remember each plant can grow up to 2 metres and produce 1,000 seeds. The problem gets worse year by year."
