Wadsworth Council needs your help

Thursday, 23 May 2019

Are you community spirited, do you care about what takes place on your doorstep and would you like to contribute to your community’s future? Then becoming a Parish Councillor might be for you.

Community-orientated Wadsworth Parish Council is looking to co-opt an additional five members.

Wadsworth Parish Council might be rural but in fact it is one of the largest parishes in England, covering Old Town, Pecket Well, Crimsworth and large parts of Hardcastle Crags and Wadsworth Moor.

The Parish Council owns allotments, garages and parking spaces, all leased to local residents, as well as Wadsworth Community Centre, leased at a peppercorn rent to the Community Association.

The Parish Council also owns and manages Smeeking Hill War Memorial and surrounding land at Pecket Well as well as two play areas, one in Pecket well and one on Old Town Village Green. The village green is also owned and managed by the Council.

Councillors, among many other things, address residents’ concerns, comment on planning applications, contribute to the Neighbourhood Plan, pay out grants to local community organisations and speak up on behalf of the local community.

The Parish Council meets once a month at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, on a Wednesday at 7.30 pm, the meetings are friendly and include a public question time.

If you think that you may be interested in becoming a local Parish Councillor please send a short CV to wparish@hotmail.com by the 17th June.

You do not need any specific qualifications but you do need to be over 18 and live within or within a few miles of the Parish.

All applications welcome. We look forward to hearing from you.
