The Station Building
Each time we pass the station building there's a little less scaffolding and more windows ready for us to peer through to spot the latest restoration.
The owners of the building, Network Rail, have commissioned CPMS contractors together with Historic England to bring the Listed Grade II building into a safe and lasting state for social uses.
It is encouraging to us that local businesses have also been employed engaged to restore/replace the existing sash windows, doors and other woodwork.
Local Cragg Builders have been busy repointing both internal and external walls.(Lime, traditional pointing contemporary to the age of the building (1874).
The Railway Heritage Trust, as well as providing grants for the project, will be involved with the repair and restoration other artefacts i.e fireplaces, skirting boards, lighting.
Phase 1 is due for completion in the Spring - with Arriva Trains North planning to the include the building into their station lease. Then the real planning for what community/social use for this splendid example of railway architecture will begin.
The Station Car Park
We are expecting a start on the planned car-park when there is room in the top yard after the contractors for the station building and the platform extensions finish their projects.
Everything happening at once! It must be frustrating for everyone - contractors and potential car park/rail users. The basic plan is for 200+ spaces with the present access road having double yellow/no parking for the benefit of everyone.
It's been a bit difficult this year with the upheaval going on here - but we still achieved an Association of Community Rail Partnership Gold certificate together with a ‘Thriving’ from ‘Yorkshire in Bloom’. The Station Partnership does far more than the gardening - we represent the community of Mytholmroyd at conferences and award ceremonies throughout the UK.
The Station Secretary keeps the railway ‘family’ in this country and abroad informed of our community-based projects and our ‘adventures’ with the old station building - with monthly contributions to the national Train-on-Line publication.
Join us at our monthly planning meeting at the Good Shepherd Centre on the second Wednesday starting at 19.30.
