Hebden Bridge Disability Access Forum needs new members!

Hebden Bridge Disability Access Forum has now been in existence for almost two years. We have over twenty five members and we work very hard to improve access to life in general in the Hebden Royd area.
We warmly welcome new members with any sort of disability, including for example impairments of mobility, vision, hearing, communication, neurological issues, mental health issues, learning disability and chronic illness.
Members contribute by attending our regular monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month, and/or by discussion on our online forum and by phone or email with each other. Members are welcome to contribute in whatever way they can manage. The more members we have, the more representative we are of the disabled community, and the more knowledge and expertise we can offer. We are each experts in living with our own disability, and can suggest ways to improve access to all aspects of life – such as access to places, events, information, transport, services, employment, education, financial benefits, recreation and housing.
We also work to raise awareness of disability issues and access needs in the area, and to make Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd and surrounding villages a disabled-friendly place for both residents and visitors.
We promote the Social Model of Disability, which says that people with impairments are ‘disabled’ by the barriers operating in society that exclude and discriminate against them.
There is always work to do in between meetings for those members who are able and willing. All contributions are equally welcome, large or small.
