Celebrating International Women's Week

Valley Women is an all female organisation set up for women in the Calder Valley and they have organised an event to celebrate International Women's Week on Saturday 10th March, at Todmorden Town Hall.
Organiser Bev McGregor says, "International Women's Day this year is more significant than most because it marks 100 years since some women got the vote. Todmorden and the Valley has a long history of strong women and to help organise this event to celebrate is a pleasure and an honour. As Valley Women, we strive to bring together Women to share information, knowledge and support."
Barbara Jones, one of the group organisers said, "As a group we want to create an afternoon for all Valley Women and their friends to celebrate what we do and see how fantastic we are in all walks of life, from art to healthcare, technology to trades, and everything in between."
There will be a variety of businesses, support groups for women and short talks on various subjects by local businesses including; Straw bale building with Barbara Jones from Straw Works and School of Natural Building and 'An introduction to vision boards' with Tammy Jayne, plus lots more happening on the day. It starts at 1pm - 4pm and it is free entry!
There will be many activities happening including a Quiz to test your knowledge.
Viv Boardman says, "I have been looking at the history of women's equality, starting with the centenary of the first time women could vote in this country, and looking at more recent legislation. I think people will be surprised at just how recent some of these breakthroughs are. I also hope to be chairing a "Question Time" style workshop, with notable Valley women, including the mayor of Todmorden. We've come a long way, but we still have work to do."
The Golden Lion in Todmorden has a night of Sistas in Reggae on the evening to celebrate, starting at 8pm with live performances from Terry Logan & Chris Manley and Amelia Harmony, DJ sets from Empress T, Miss Chop and Sista Emma.
Everyone is Welcome to our celebrations at Todmorden Town Hall 1pm - 4pm. Refreshments are available from PUDS.
