Christmas Lunchtime Live at Hope Baptist Chapel
Tuesday, 12 December 2017
Christmas Lunchtime Live at Hope Baptist Chapel is hosting an array of talent from the Calder Valley and beyond this Saturday at 1-4pm.
Every month there is an opportunity for the public to come and showcase their talent from all ages. This month is a special Christmas Lunchtime Live; featuring Terry Logan, Frank Leigh, Midnight Train and 14 year old, Isaac Hughes Dennis. At Hope Baptist Chapel there is an opportunity for all performers of all ages to get up on the stage and perform their chosen talent. Every month there will be a regular spot for an under 18's to perform.
Isaac Hughes Dennis is really excited about performing at The Hope Baptist Chapel for Christmas Lunchtime Live and says, " I'ts great to support a local venue. I`ve never seen any events in there, so it's great it's being used for a good cause. Also the acoustics are great in churches, so that should be funky"
Isaac's father Peter says, "It is great that young people are being given the opportunity to develop their skills and talents and that the wider community get a chance to see what young people have lots to offer and are making a positive contribution to their communities."
Isaac is a 14 year old young musician who is always up for a bit of fun, and this shows in his music. He plays the ukulele, banjolele, piano, and occasionally lets a cheeky bit of kazoo slip into his act every now and then. He plays a selection of his own songs and classics to oddities from the 1950s onward and has been known make up random dittys on the spot. He is a young up and coming local musician who has started to make a name for himself in Calderdale and the North of England. His songs are usually based on real life events and funny little things that make life just that bit more amusing. He takes inspiration from anywhere he can find it. His debut album, Gravity, was released last year and he is working on the next one!
Midnight Train were originally a duo, Chris Edwards & Georgie Dupree. Georgie's American roots (her daddy was a blues singer from the American Deep South) inspired the group's name. They sang mostly American covers in two part harmony with Chris on guitar. Earlier this year they invited Liz Dykes to join them, and have been singing lovely three-part harmonies ever since.
"We mostly reinterpret an eclectic mix of covers, and we've also started writing our own songs. We're looking forward to playing in the Hope Baptist Church with its amazing acoustics," said Liz Dykes.
Frank Leigh lives in Lancashire and is use to the limelight. However, playing is what he lives for and writing songs is his way of life. Frank is an old soul and his music reflects this, sit back and enjoy where this singer takes you.
Frank says, "When writing songs I usually find inspiration from things that have happened to me in my life or from things that have happened to others around me. I also get inspired from observing people's behaviour and when reflecting on the way I've handled things in the past, in various situations but I'd say first hand knowledge from real life experiences feels natural for me to write about.
"When performing live I enjoy telling the stories through my songs as authentically as possible, capturing the mood of the time, place and almost recreating the way I felt when writing the song. I also find it interesting to see who my songs have connected with in the audience and the reason why," Frank Leigh said.
After launching her solo career at the Hebden Folk Roots Festival in 2016, Terry Logan certainly has been busy. Her EP 'Believe It a Little' was released this year and she has been touring in Berlin and in and around venues and festivals in the UK.
"We are really excited about next year. We're looking forward to setting some time aside in January and February to write new songs and develop the sound further. We've also planned to record a second EP later in the year and of course, to do more gigs. "
"We are looking forward playing this Saturday and getting into the Christmas spirit, our own groove and listening to all the other wonderful performers play too."
Join all the performers this Saturday for the 'Christmas Lunchtime Live' at Hope Baptist Chapel 1-4pm it is a 'Pay as you feel' event. If you want to perform please contact hopeliveevents@gmail.com. They are looking for all ages of all talents.
