Bye-election: Hebden Royd Town Council White Lee ward

Friday, 5 May 2017

This year, voters in our area did not have the opportunity to vote in local elections. Every fourth year used to be the opportunity to vote in the West Yorkshire Council elections - until that authority was abolished by the then Conservative Government.

However voters in the White Lee ward in Mytholmroyd have the opportunity to vote in a bye-election next Thursday, 11 May.

The candidates are Scott Patient for Labour, Jenny Shepherd for the Greens and Stephne Harrison for the Lib Dems.

As usual, candidates are encouraged to send the HebWeb words and a photo to help electors make up their mind.

So far we have received the following from

Scott Patient, Labour

Scott PatientMy family and I have lived in Mytholmroyd for nearly 10 years, having moved from Manchester, where i studied Graphic Design. As I live within the ward I believe this gives me a clearer insight into the needs of those who live here, I run and walk my dogs here and my family and I have many friends who live here too. This area is so special and is a great place to bring up children so therefore enjoy playing an active part in local life. My children attend the local schools and we all value the importance of community above all else.

I am a Parent Governor at Burnley Road Academy and have been proud to support them during their relocation and rebuild post-floods, whilst also helping with their fantastic new "forest activities”.

I joined the Mytholmroyd flood wardens after witnessing first-hand the devastation caused by the Boxing Day floods. It has been a pleasure to play a part of such a passionate, well organised and pro-active group. As the village evolves and changes I am committed to providing support to those who live and work here during the disruption, helping them recover and watch their businesses grow.

People need to know whats happening in the village at the moment and i hope to support the already great work the Labour-led town council has been doing with grants for community groups and allotments amongst others, whilst also providing another voice on the town council to local groups like Royd Regen and the Station Partnership - the work they do is vital, especially in these times of Government cuts.

I am determined to help protect the NHS and our local services and believe my energy and determination will serve the local community well
