Hebden Bridge author's new book takes crime to new heights

Crime in the high Lake District fells – that's the theme of a new novel from Hebden Bridge author Andrew Bibby which is to be published on Thursday 10 November.
In the Cold of the Night is set in the shadow of England's highest mountains. The staff at Greensleeves residential park are undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge for charity. But their attempt to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in one weekend goes badly wrong. As they begin the walk up Scafell Pike their boss disappears. Next day his half-naked body is found in a moorland bog miles off route.
As the police begin their enquiry Nick Potterton, once a successful London journalist but now a struggling part-time freelance for the local press, also investigates. The 'Body on the Bog' story becomes the paper's front page lead. It falls to Nick to try to find out exactly how Richard Meade met his death.
In the Cold of the Night follows Andrew Bibby's previous crime novel, The Bad Step, also set in the Lake District. Also available as an e-book, The Bad Step is now being reissued in paperback format as a companion volume to the new title.
Both novels are being published by Gritstone Publishing, the first publisher in the country to be established as an author-run co-operative. Gritstone specialises in publishing non-fiction and fiction titles relating to the landscape and the countryside. Its four founder members are all experienced outdoor writers and journalists who have decided that, by establishing Gritstone as a fully mutual co-operative, they will be able to exercise more control over the way that their work is published.
As well as Andrew Bibby, another Hebden Bridge author Chris Goddard is a founder member of Gritstone. Chris Goddard, who has built a considerable following with his immaculate hand-drawn guides to Yorkshire's countryside, published his latest title, The West Yorkshire Woods: Part 1, earlier in 2016 and his title like Andrew Bibby's will be marketed through Gritstone's website.
Andrew Bibby will be signing copies of both In the Cold of the Night and The Bad Step in Hebden Bridge's popular independent bookshop The Book Case on Saturday November 12th from 2pm to 3.30pm.
The Bad Step is also available in eBook format - for Kindle here and here for iBooks
