After the Floods: Greens Vegetarian Café reopens
Sunday, 1 May 2016
Greens Café was one of the many businesses devastated by the Boxing Day floods. It was the second time in three years that they had been affected and this time the flood water not only filled the cellar, it also seeped into the ground floor of the property effectively wiping out the business. What's more, all the stock, fixtures and equipment had to go, at huge financial loss.
Initially there were doubts whether the business would survive as the task of rebuilding seemed insurmountable. However, the first signs of green shoots came in the form of help and support from the community, friends, neighbours and even strangers helped with the huge clear up.
Now four months on, after support from Calderdale Council, Flood Aid and the landlord of the property the café has now been fully refurbished and will reopen on Saturday 7th May 10.30am-4.30pm.
Kim Green, the owner, would like to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone involved and invite customers old and new to the reopening.
She also told the HebWeb, 'This is a wonderful example of a community that cares for one another and resilience in the face of adversity. Thank you Hebden Bridge'.
