Linda Green launches her latest novel in Hebden Bridge
Monday, 25 April 2016
Bestselling author Linda Green is hoping her new novel While My Eyes Were Closed, which will be launched at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on April 29, will prove her biggest success yet.
The ebook version of While My Eyes Were Closed has already reached number three in the Amazon kindle charts and the novel has attracted rave reviews from several well-known authors.
While My Eyes Were Closed, which is set in the Calder Valley, tells the story of the disappearance of a four-year-old girl during a game of hide-and-seek, from both the point of view of the mother and the person who takes her.
And Ms Green, who taught creative writing classes for the Workers Educational Association in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, is hoping the current popularity of psychological thrillers will help to bring her paperback to a new audience.
She said, "The recent success of so-called 'domestic-noir' or 'grip-lit' novels illustrates that having someone close to home who can't be trusted is something which people are very interested in reading about.
"While My Eyes Were Closed is a tense psychological drama and is a departure from my previous novels in that it centres on a crime. But it's still very much a family drama rather than a police procedural.
'Maternal guilt and loss are major themes of the novel and I wanted to explore how society, and in particular the mainstream media and social media, is so quick to judge mothers, often without knowing the facts behind a case."
Bestselling author and TV personality Amanda Prowse described it as, "A beautifully crafted novel of knife-edge suspense that held my attention to the very end. I wanted to compare the author to Gillian Flynn or Alice Sebold, but that wouldn't be right. This book is one hundred percent Linda Green, and Linda Green is bloody brilliant!"
And fellow bestselling author Dorothy Koomson called it "Clever and compelling, While My Eyes Were Closed is a brave story, which is touching right down to the final word. I so enjoyed this book."
Ms Green, aged 46, who lived in the Calder Valley before moving to Bingley three years ago, has again chosen to set her novel locally, with the action taking place in Halifax and Hardcastle Craggs. She explained, "The Calder Valley is the place I know best and I like to be able to visualize my characters in their environment. The beautiful countryside around here helped to inspire some of the scenes in the book."
While My Eyes Were Closed is published be Quercus and Ms Green will be launching the novel at the Waterfront Hall at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Friday April 29 at 7.30pm. It's a free event and all are welcome. The Book Case will be selling copies of the novel at the launch.
