Big Calder Spring Cleanup – March 2016

The next stage of our recovery from the the Boxing Day floods – after the baling out, starting the repair of essential infrastructure, and beginning the economic bounce back - is to tidy the place up a bit!
During January-February, the professionals from the Environment Agency, Countryside Service and Canal and Rivers Trust have already carried out essential repairs to towpaths, bridges and locks. That's a great start.
But many of you will have noticed that, all along the River Calder and some of its tributaries, there's still an awful lot of rubbish left high and dry by the receding waters, including lots and lots of plastic wrapping hanging in trees branches. It looks a right mess and not the sort of sight to leave a favourable impression with visitors to our lovely valley, or for you to look at when walking the dog.
So time to put your wellies on again! A whole series of volunteer events have been organised along the river this March, to remove rubbish and debris from the banks of the Calder.
It's the Big Calder Spring Cleanup!
