First Green Gold Award for our area goes to Croft Mill

An apartment hotel in Hebden Bridge has been awarded a Gold certification accredited by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).
Croft Mill, the 4* luxury apartment hotel based in Calderdale, received this prestigious national award for demonstrating excellence in environmental practice and promoting sustainable tourism.
With over 2000 members across the UK, Ireland, Italy and Canada, Green Tourism is the largest and most established sustainable certification programme in the world, offering credible, trustworthy, independent guidance to tourism businesses wishing to operate good environmental practice and improve their own environmental awareness.
Participants in the scheme are visited by a qualified green advisor who assesses the business against a stringent set of criteria before making a Green award.
Croft Mill Apartments Owner, Josephine Anderson, told the HebWeb, "I'm proud to be the first hotel in Calderdale to have received the Gold Green Tourism accreditation and I hope it encourages other local business and attractions to consider that big local benefits can be achieved by small, and sometimes, cost saving changes."
Croft Mill have been committed to their environmental credentials since opening their doors in 2008. From implementing day-to-day practices including composting, recycling and beekeeping on site, to supporting local producers and environmental initiatives including Todmorden's Incredible Edible, Hebden Bridge Walkers Action Group and Get Calderdale Buzzing; Croft Mill's commitment to living and working sustainably and responsibly has been recognised with the highest accolade, and on its first submission to the GTBS, the gold status.
Josephine added, "Recognising the importance of shopping locally, reducing waste, conserving energy and water resources as well as supporting the local community, while encouraging our guests to do the same, has been at the forefront of all of Croft Mill's practices. We're committed to a future where tourism and sustainability go hand in hand."
