Market Street - night time road repairs for three weeks
Wednesday, 21 October 2015
Over £200,000 of essential maintenance work will begin on the A646 Market Street and Bridge Lanes in Hebden Bridge on 26 October 2015.
The full carriageway will be resurfaced, all existing road markings will be replaced and any ironwork, such as utility covers, will be adjusted or renewed.
Calderdale Council's Director of Economy and Environment, Mark Thompson said, "This is a very well-used length of road, but with this investment we should not need to do any further maintenance work for another ten years, which is good news for regular commuters and local businesses. It will also create an improved road surface, with clearer markings to help keep road users safe."
To minimise disruption, work on the scheme will begin at 10pm and will finish at 4am from Monday to Friday for the duration of the project, which is scheduled to last three weeks. A diversion will be in place for road travellers, however access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be unaffected.
Although the work will be done overnight noise will be kept to a minimum as the contractors will use low sound emitting plant and equipment.
The work will be carried out in phases, starting at West End / Holme Street before moving along Market Street / Bridge Lanes and onto Heptonstall Road.
Vehicle access for residents and businesses with off-road parking will be maintained where possible, however road side parking will not be permitted within the scheme.
Work on the scheme will coincide with the last bus times on the route, so bus passengers should be unaffected. The Council has consulted the bus companies along the route and customer information signs have been posted at stops within the scheme.
The scheme will be funded through Calderdale Council's highway maintenance programme of works.
