New Director of National Portrait Gallery grew up in Hebden Bridge

Nicholas CullinenThe new director of National Portrait Gallery in London's Trafalgar Square grew up in Hebden Bridge.

Nicholas Cullinan spent his childhood in Charlestown and before taking a degree course at the Courtauld Institute in London was educated locally.

Since graduating he has worked at Tate Modern in London and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. He visited Hebden Bridge last summer and gave a talk about the blockbuster Matisse exhibition which he co-curated at Tate Modern. Nicholas has family who live in Mytholmroyd.
