Trades Club just misses out on national award

The Trades Club has once again just missed out on winning the prestigious NME Small Venue of the Year award despite a close battle.

The Holme Street members club had been battling it out with Norwich Arts Centre for the last few weeks but the East Anglican venue just pipped them on the line.

Trades Club Entertainment Manager Mal Campbell said: "This is our third nomination in a row so it seems we are becoming the Martin Scorsese of live music venues just missing out on the main prize like he did at the Oscars year after year.

"Despite our disappointment we would offer our sincere congratulations to the team at Norwich Arts Centre who run their venue with exactly the same ethos as us booking some outstanding acts to help keep music live.

"But most of all we want to thank all the local folk who took the time to vote for us joining forces with lots of our friends from around the country who travel to gigs here. Winning an award is nice, but our biggest accolade is the support we have from our community who really value what we do."

Despite not winning the club has had a record year for attendances which will be boosted by a three night residency from former New Order bassist Peter Hook next month and a one off weekend 25th birthday bash for the legendary Heavenly Records in January.
