Friends of Riverside School raise money with a quiz and raffle

Sunday, 6 April 2014

Riverside Junior School pupils are looking forward to some new playground equipment thanks to almost £250 raised by their parents' fundraising efforts.

The Friends of Riverside (FORS) team held a quiz compered by local performer Mike Hancock as parents, governors and staff battled it out solving anagrams of local businesses, some questions very loosely linked to Le Tour, a literary round set by the Book Case and a Spot the Intro music round donated by Dave Boardman who hosts the quiz night across the road at the Trades Club.

FORS are committed to supporting local business so the teams tucked into a supper of pies from Waites washed down with Bridestones beer before buying raffle tickets for a lunch for two donated by their near neighbours the Olive Branch.

Spring cleanNot content with that Riverside families then turned out in force to take part in the Hebden Royd Spring Clean helping the school's pupils think about the impact littering has on their community.

FORS Chair Rebecca Yorke told the HebWeb, 'The annual quiz is a great way for members of the Riverside community to socialise while raising money for the school and its pupils. We are a community school which means supporting local businesses is important to us so the pies, the beer and the Olive Branch raffle prize went down very well! We are also very proud of the children who took their families litter picking at the weekend and would like to thank everyone who took part.'
