Hebden Bridge Comedy Club: Angela and The Preacher's Son
Markus Birdman first took to the stage as a performance poet but quickly became aware that audiences were laughing at him so swapped the verse for gags and and decided to enter the aptly titled 'So You Think You're Funny?' competition. It turned out he was right, and he's been wowing comedy fans ever since.
Being the son of a vicar has influenced Markus's comedy no end and has been the foundation for two of his full length shows, 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and the more disturbingly titled 'Sympathy For The Devil'.

Angela Barnes signed up for a 12-week comedy workshop in Brighton and within 18 months had won the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award in front of an audience of industry movers and shakers including Sarah Millican and Stephen K Amos.
"I nearly didn't enter the competition at all so it was a massive shock to win".
Since then she has appeared on the telly alongside Eddie Izzard and Russell Kane, appeared on BBC's Russell Howard's Good News, developed her own series with BBC Radio Comedy, and performed at the Latitude Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and written for Radio 4's The News Quiz of which she is a long time fan.
As for the future Barnes wants to do more radio comedy but it looks like the great British public will be demanding more than that!
