Maxine Peake concert raises money for Morning Star Supporters' Group
A benefit concert for the Morning Star at the Trades Club raised £760 for the socialist daily paper's Fighting Fund on Wednesday, October16.
Performers were poet Graham Alexander, Red Hippo, and Maxine Peake and her band Eccentronic Research Council. All the artists gave their services for nothing.
The event was organised by the recently-formed Calder Valley Morning Star Readers' and Supporters' Group, which meets at the Trades.
Around 100 people attended the gig.
The group is working to increase circulation of the Morning Star in Calder Valley, in addition to staging regular fund-raising events.

Maxine Peake at the Trades
Actor Maxine Peake and her band the Eccentronic Research Council headline a gig at the Trades to raise funds for the Morning Star newspaper Wednesday night, October 16.
Also appearing are Red Hippo, with their remarkable Celtic musical interpretations, and poet Graham Alexander, fresh from his success at the Edinburgh Fringe.
There'll be curries too, and Morning Star merchandise on sale in support of Britain's national daily voice of the labour and trades union movement, campaigning for peace and socialism.
Gig organised by Calder Valley Morning Star Readers' and Supporters' Group.
Doors open 7.30 pm, start 8 pm. Tickets £7 Trades members, £9 non-members, £5 unwaged.
