Hebden Bridge Folk Roots Song Swap

An additional event has just been announced for the Trades Club's Folk Roots weekend in November. Increasingly at festivals and other events the American style songswap is playing a major and popular part. It involves three songwriters taking turns to perfomrs their own songs accompanied by others who jam along. This means it is always a unique event.

Steve TilstonAt Trades Roots on 9 November local songwriter Steve Tilston will be joined by the bard of the North East Jez Lowe and up and coming songwriter Gren Bartley, who is being feted by the music press and audiences across the country. Gren's album Winter Fires has seen him join the top level of new songwriters on the folk and acoustic scene.

Jez LoweJez Lowe (see right) has long been a major player on the folk scene with songs based steeped in the culture of Country Durham.

"The song swap is an exciting addition to music events," Trades Roots organiser Dave Boardman told the HebWeb. "It brings three great songwriters together to share their songs and join in with each other. Steve Tilston being a top quality guitarist as well as songwriter is the ideal host for this and we're very pleased that Jez and new finger picking star Gren will be joining him.

GrenGren Bartley (see left) is seen by many as the rising star of UK folk and has been lauded by fRoots magazine, BBC 2 and Mike Harding on his online radio show.

"We tried it last year with Steve, Roger Davies and Henry Priestman and it was so popular we just had to do it again"

Also appearing over the weekend of 8-10 November will be The Demon Barbers, Kathryn Williams, Wilful Missing, fRoots editor Ian Anderson's band False Beards and a Sunday afternoon of protest and radical songs featuring Louise Distras, Tracey Curtis and Chrystine Moon.
