. . . and Hardcastle Crags

BBC to film part of the Pride and Prejudice sequel in the Crags


The National Trust’s Hardcastle Crags and Gibson Mill is set to provide the perfect backdrop for a new TV production.

The cameras will start rolling at the estate from Wednesday 7 to Friday 9 August when the cast and crew are busy filming new television drama Death Comes to Pemberley, the sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

The BBC are making use of the beautiful woodland area surrounding Gibson Mill and a quaint waterfall just past the building as a backdrop for various scenes in the three-part series, thought to air this Christmas.

Based on PD James’s novel the story tells the tale of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy five years into their marriage, the plot surrounds the character of Lydia Wyckham (Jenna Coleman) whose husband is killed, creating chaos in Pemberley.

Judith Patrick, countryside property manager for Hardcastle Crags and Gibson Mill, said: “The team and I are so pleased that the BBC have included Hardcastle Crags as a location for filming this production. Yorkshire is very picturesque and we’re very proud to be a part of the project.

The actors involved include Anna Maxwell Martin, (South Riding and Bleak House) as Elizabeth, Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Edwin Drood) as Darcy, Matthew Goode, star of Watchmen and Brideshead Revisited as Wickham, Trevor Eve, star of Shoestring and Waking the Dead as Sir Selwyn Hardcastle, and Jenna Coleman from the latest series of Doctor Who as Lydia.

Supported by Screen Yorkshire other locations for the production have included the National Trust’s Treasurer’s House, Chatsworth House, Harewood House and Castle Howard.
