CocoRosie play their only Northern show at the Trades Club: Another big booking for Trades

In another coup for the Trades Club hotly tipped, indie folk-tronic duo CocoRosie play their only Northern show on Monday 22 July.

CocoRosie consists of the Casady sisters, vocalist /guitarist /harpist Sierra and vocalist /percussionist Bianca, and they are on the road plugging their critically acclaimed new album Tales of a Grass Widow featuring guest vocals from their friend art rocker Antony Hegarty.

“This is the first CocoRosie gig in the North since they played the massive Manchester Cathedral and they never usually play venues as small as the Trades Club so this is a massive coup for us.” Trades club promoter Mal Campbell told the HebWeb.

“They are one of the most unpredictable and challenging acts around so to see them up close and personal in our club makes it a real contender for gigs of the year.”

Both sisters had an early love of music that they pursued as they grew up, but in very different ways. Sierra began operatic vocal training while she was in high school, while Bianca sang and wrote songs but kept them to herself.

She reconnected with Sierra, who joined Bianca at her Paris apartment, and they started playing and recording songs together. The finest fruits of their labour, La Maison de Mon Reve, was released in spring 2004 by Touch and Go and was predated by a string of dates in New York with Devendra Banhart, the Gena Rowlands Band, Battles, and Ratatat.

Their second album, Noah's Ark, which featured cameos by Devendra Banhart and Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, arrived in the fall of 2005.

The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn was a more polished but still eclectic effort. The following year they released the single God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me, which also appeared on 2010's Grey Oceans that was inspired by the sisters' travels through Europe, Australia and South America.

CocoRosie plays a string of festival dates before travelling to West Yorkshire as part of their biggest European tour to date.
