Doddnaze Artists: new Hebden based music agency
Doddnaze Artists have many well known local acts on their books and can help organise your social event
Dave and Viv Boardman’s new music booking agency is bringing the music of Jacques Brel to the Trades Club on 31 May. Dead Belgian are one of Doddnaze Artists’ acts and are currently on a major national tour taking in The Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, Manchester’s Band on the Wall and Brewery Arts in Kendal before their Trades Club gig at the end of the month.
Doddnaze Artists, named after the area of Hebden Bridge Dave and Viv have made their home, has attracted an increasingly wide range of acts since they set up in the autumn of 2012. Well known local bands like Pepperjam and Owter Zeds can be booked through them and they are creating a ‘weddings and social’ list, so whatever your needs they can provide performers ranging from The Googles, a top quality 80s covers band to the psychedelic garage punk of the Electric Brains.
‘After years of bringing the best to Hebden Bridge at the Trades Club, we are still helping with that process but also planning on taking the best of Hebden out across the country,’ said Dave Boardman.
In the realm of folk Doddnaze Artists include Joe Tilston, son of Steve Tilston and Maggie Boyle, and brother to Martha and Molly. Joe’s new album is getting great reviews and he will also be appearing at the Trades Club on 10 July. Psychedelic folk singer -songwriter Creedy can also be booked through Doddnaze Artists, while Manchester based Harp and a Monkey provide electro-folk with Lancashire culture at its heart. They will be appearing at the Musicport Festival in Whitby in October, which Dave has been connected with for several years.
Dave Boardman is known locally mostly as the Scouser at the Trades Club, one of the nation’s favourite small venues. Dave and Viv’s home town provide other acts on the Doddnaze roster. These include Liverpool’s favourite radical singer -songwriter Alun Parry, host of the city’s Woody Guthrie Folk Club; Jazz supergroup The Weave; up and coming cello-led indie band The Mono LPs as well as Dead Belgian. Mono LPs will be supporting The Laurel Canyons at the Trades Club on 8 June.
‘Dead Belgian are the perfect Liverpool band. They arrive on stage with a sense of humour – dead Belgian not only refers to Jacques Brel’s current status but it is scouse for very Belgian, which Brel surprisingly was. It also shows the breadth of scouse culture, always more avant garde then the stereotypes we get from national media.’ They have been selling tickets up and down the country and audiences are always surprised at how many Brel songs they know in various forms.’
After working at the Trades Club, Beverley Folk Festival, Musicport as well as local events like World on Your Doorstep, Todstock and RIverside festivals and Dave and Viv have many years experience of event organising, so can also help organise socials and parties as well as providing bands etc.
Viv is currently building links with the Rural Touring Network which provides entertainment for village and community halls in rural areas nationwide.
