Punk veterans The Fall play The Trades Hebden Bridge

Update: A queue formed outside the Trades Club as tickets for a intimate gig by punk legends The Fall sold out in a hour. 'The Trades knew this was going to a popular gig but even we were caught out by how quickly the tickets went,' Trades Club spokesperson Paul Clarke told the HebWeb. ' Most of the tickets were snapped up by club members which proves it is worth joining up especially as we have a host of top class gigs coming up and membership gives you a discount for all of them. Our thanks go to everyone who queued in good humour despite the freezing conditions.'

Singer Mark E Smith has been challenging his audiences with his idiosyncratic lyrics over 29 albums and numerous line-up changes since he formed the band back in 1976.

"There is no-one quite like Mark E Smith as a live act and I've made it my mission to get him to Hebden Bridge and we've pulled it off," says Trades Club Ents Manager Mal Campbell. "This is the smallest venue he has played for years which will make it an extraordinary as Mark love s it when an audience is up close and personal. All I can say is when you come along expect the unexpected."

Smith formed the band in Salford, quickly making a name for himself as a brilliant lyricist he soon found favour with Radio One DJ John Peel who said of The Fall that 'They are always different, they are always the same.' This led to a record 24 Peel sessions and annual appearances in the legendary Peel Festive 50.

A Fall album is always a challenging proposition, but Smith has been an unlikely hitmaker covering of R. Dean Taylor's Motown classic 'There's a Ghost in My House' and The Kinks' 'Victoria.'

Mark E Smith is also one of music's most demanding band leaders regularly sacking band members, including Radio Six DJ Mark 'Lard' Riley, and even engaging in fisticuffs with musicians on stage.
