Fairtrade Fortnight in Hebden Bridge
Wednesday, 27 February 2013
It's Fairtrade Fortnight and Hebden Bridge, as a Fairtrade Town, has plenty going on.
You can visit the Fairtrade Information Station on St Georges Square this Saturday 2nd March from 10.00 am - 3 pm.
Come along and find out how you can support Fairtrade, help make a sculpture from Fairtrade packaging and even buy some rice.
Hebden Bridge is trying to sell 90kg of Fairtrade rice during Fairtrade Fortnight and in doing so will enable a farmer in Malawi to send their child to high school and help break the cycle of poverty. This 90kg will then contribute to the 1 Tonne that Fairtrade Yorkshire (the first Fairtrade county in England) is trying to sell.
There are other events taking place on Saturday: A Fairtarde Fashion show and coffee morning at Hebden Bridge Methodist Church, and Fairtrade food tasting at Spirals, plus a fair trade quiz, fair trade themed artwork by local schools on display and also another opportunity to buy the rice.
