Hebden Bridge Local Bus Services Consultation
Tuesday, 4 December 2012
Changes proposed from April 2013
Current issues and problems
- Reliability of the service due to ageing buses
- Problems with buses getting around narrow roads/ parked cars etc in some areas
- Additional cost of replacing current buses not justified by current level of passenger use – need to find a more cost effective solution
- Poor co-ordination with longer distance buses and trains
Overview of proposals
- Newer buses on Old Town, Heptonstall/ Blackshaw Head services. Reinstate the alternate clockwise and anticlockwise service. No route change and only minor changes to timetables during Monday to Saturday daytime.
- Small minibus on Nest Estate and Banksfield, service, extended to reinstate a service to Eaves and Fairfield in the off-peak on Monday to Saturday daytime.Cragg Vale served by Huddersfield – Hebden Bridge service 900/901 with additional trips Monday to Saturday peak times between Cragg Vale and Hebden Bridge.
A summary of the current and proposed bus service pattern is attached to this paper.
Advantages of the Proposals
- Concentrates larger buses on busier routes A/B and E
- More resilient network , less prone to delays and cancellations
- Smaller bus on estates operating hail and ride
- Reinstates service to Eaves and Fairfield off peak
- Possible extension of service to Caldene Avenue
Disadvantages
- Cragg Vale service reduced to hourly Monday to Saturday daytime. Evening and Sunday service withdrawn (except Summer Sundays) due to low levels of use
- Withdrawal of evening service to Kebs Road
- Withdrawal of Sunday service to Banksfield and Nest Estate
Process to be adopted
- December/ January - Public consultation
- January/ February - Tenders invited for operator to run small minibus service
- January/ February - Renegotiation of contract with First to secure newer buses
- End April – revised services introduced
