Free buses for a week

Friday, 15 June 2012

Metro, and contributors to the HebWeb Forum have reported that people in and around Hebden Bridge and Todmorden will be able to take advantage of free travel on local bus services next week, courtesy of Metro.

From Sunday 17 June to Sunday 24 June, all journeys on Hebden Bridge services A, B, C. D & E and Todmorden services T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 T6, T8 & T9, FlexiBus services 1 & 2 and service 906 will be free.

Since February, HebWeb Forum correspondents have been complaining about the Tyrer run Hebden Bridger service. Regularly, buses tour hilltop villages have failed to turn up, or leave the train station the moment before a train is about to arrive. People have been complaining to Metro and Tyrer for months.

First have now been awarded the contract and will take over from Tyrer.

Journeys on Sunday 17th and Mon 18th will be operated by Calderdale Community Transport using accessible minibuses, whilst First will take over from Tuesday using a mixture of vehicles.

From Sunday June 24, a revised timetable will be introduced with minor changes to the daytime service "to improve punctuality and reliability". In the evenings, Service T9 will be withdrawn and Service T1 will be reduced in frequency from half-hourly to hourly. Timetables will be available early next week on Metro's website

The existing fleet of vehicles will gradually be brought back into use, once they have been repaired.

Fares will be charged once more from Monday 25th June.
